WHAT: The fifth annual Danny Dietz Memorial Team Roping and Barbeque Cook Off event, presented by Texas Roadhouse and Finnegan Auto Group, will honor the nation’s brave warriors and their families with a family friendly, weekend-long team roping event at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds. The fundraiser will kick off on Friday, May 23 with a party at Michael Berry’s Redneck Country Club, featuring live music from Nashville recording artist, David Lee Murphy, raffles, a live auction, and a special presentation by Navy SEAL (Ret.) Dave Hall and Patsy Dietz-Shipley, widow of U.S. Navy SEAL Danny Dietz.
The weekend’s roping events will include a variety of team livestock roping rodeo events, and will kick off the following morning, Saturday, May 24, with a variety of team roping competitions, as well as an awards presentation and concert by Jason Cassidy. The roping competition and family activities will continue on Sunday, May 25. For more information and a full schedule of events, visit www.dannydietzmemorial.com.
Colorado native Danny Dietz began his naval career in 1999, at just 19 years old. Danny moved quickly through the ranks, achieving his goal of becoming a Navy SEAL in only two years. Deployed to Afghanistan in April 2005 as a member of Naval Special Squadron 10, his unit was ambushed during a surveillance and reconnaissance mission, and Danny was killed in action, leaving behind his wife, his parents and two siblings. Proceeds from the Danny Dietz Memorial Team Roping and BBQ Cook Off will benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation, and all the courageous Naval Special Warfare warriors and their families.
